If you are someone who is not satisfied with his or her performance at work or in personal life anytime, you might be a perfectionist. You always aim to be flawless in whatever you do, which might harm you in the long run.

Those who expect perfection tend to set unrealistic goals for themselves. Perfectionism is like a killjoy that will not allow you to rest in peace. You must train your mind to accept certain things as they are- with the drawbacks, if any. Daily meditation and journaling will aid you in learning to appreciate what you have gained.

The Mental Coach is an online mental training program for people from all backgrounds and ages. It is developed by David Kenward who has been into sports competition for quite a while. He understands the stress, pressure and an urge to win and hence he can very well relate to an athlete’s frustration when he cannot perform nicely in a competition.

Keeping this in mind, David Kenward helps out athletes to be mentally strong so that they can perform equally well under pressure using the mental tools he has devised. The website (www.thementalcoach.com) also features various testimonials of satisfied users.

These exercises involve daily workouts consisting of mental calculations, memorizations and enigmas that aid in developing cognitive capabilities and avoid particular neurodegenerative diseases.

Based on this, numerous products were launched that promised users of a stronger brain and no such disease. However there is no scientific research to back these claims so we better stay away from such products. These online games are recreational and their results are not proven yet.

Why not play Sudoku instead? It would be as stimulating for your brain.

I have seen many people who are constantly complaining about anything under the sun- right from their health, kids, job, average looks etc! These people cannot be mentally tough even if they sign up for the best mental coaching program.

Basically, you have to be very optimistic and think positively about everything around you. Even kids can be taught to talk positively about their health and fitness in general. This helps a lot to strengthen your brain and also keeps you in a happy frame of mind. When this is done, your brain works faster and better. Try it and let me know!

Oh no, I am not asking you to change your brain! Our brain gets used to a daily routine that becomes monotonous after a while. So start doing something completely different each day than the usual chores.

You can take a walk on a new pathway. Lock up your television set in the closet for a week. Try driving to work using a different street. Celebrate ‘left-hand’ day and do everything using your left hand that day. All these exercises/ activities are aimed to make your brain capable of handling varied environments and situations confidently.

Do you have any more ideas on this?

Now that I am sharing some lifestyle changes that you can adopt for a brilliant brain, this one is easy to do. All you need to do is consume a balanced diet consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables, pulses, cereals, nuts etc. Try and feed your body organic and natural foods and stay away from junk food like pizzas and pastries.

When your body is rich in nutrients and the required vitamins, the same is fed to the brain as well. This way your brain works with clarity and becomes more efficient. Isn’t this as simple as I told you before?

Imagery is an effective technique that is used in mental training for sportsmen and students. Relaxation and imagery are more effective when used in combination than on their own. It has been proved that those students who practiced these relaxation and imagery techniques for only 10 minutes every day had a better performance than others who came to know of the technique only some minutes before their performance.

This shows that when you carry out these exercises regularly, it helps in the long run for sure. So why not start today and become a genius old man/woman later?

Think about it.

In Japan, martial art is taught in a different manner. The students have mental training incorporated in their regular practice. In the olden days, when wars were common, young samurai were given training since they were born. They were coached to be completely committed to action without giving even a little importance to their lives.

These students lead a dedicated life consisting of strict discipline, austere training and rigorous practice. Their practice involved some psycho-religious practices such as Mikkyo and Zen Buddhism that trained the mind and conditioned it. This resulted in a virtually transformed student with a clear mind and body.

Now that I have introduced all of you to so many mental exercises, you might be feeling that they are enough for mental training. But the truth is not so. There is much more to mental coaching than simple exercises.

Aged people need to get over the monotony and regular routine in their every day life. This is because it leads to mental, emotional sluggishness and resignation. The best way to avoid this is to incorporate dialogue, interaction with others and confrontation in a well-organized life.

If you truly wish to live a good life at old age, you need to develop your cognitive skills from the beginning.
