One of my friends was undergoing mental training for improving her game of golf. Somehow she started losing interest after a while in the program. She had signed up for an online program, where she did not have friends.

I suggested that she join some support group or mental training forum to meet like-minded people. She followed my advice and found many golfers like her who were seeking mental coaching. Now she has started actively participating, sharing views, asking for advice on these forums and decided to complete her training.

Online discussion groups and communities thus prove to be helpful.

There are so many people in our society who think that celebrities live a lavish life having all the comforts and they don’t require mental training. But the fact is that though celebrities might not be worried about the financial front, they are human beings like you and me and also have their own share of mental problems.

You will find lots of famous names like Ashley Judd or Jean-Claude Van Damme suffering from an eating disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and depression too. This news might be heartening for such people who avoid taking mental coaching for the fear of stigma!

Every one of us has problems. While solving your problems try to find out a list of probable solutions for it at the same time. It is not advisable to think about what has gone wrong but you have to live in present and think of some answer to your difficulty.

Try and spend your energy and time for devising a solution and not think about the past. Our brain needs positive thinking to work better and think of various fresh ideas. So coach your brain to have a forward-looking outlook so that it can produce good solutions for your problems.

As a sportsman, you need to spend some time in mental practice as well. When the optimal performance is in your mind, it will also show in your game. It is your mind that controls your body for the best performance. When you have a focused brain, your body will react faster and perform better.

Now that we have been talking about brain exercises, I can see quite some of you already tired at the thought of some other workout! But if you don’t want to grow old forgetting things every now and then, mental exercises are indispensable.

You don’t have to set aside a certain amount of time for them. You can do them anywhere, anytime like while driving to and from work, while doing housework, shopping etc. There are daily activation exercises that you have to do each day and weekly workouts too. A combination of both will work wonders for your brain.

Just like you prepare your body to face physical challenges by training it, it is possible to also train and coach the mind to be able to deal with mental challenges. If you are mentally prepared, you will be able to deal with any kind of situation thrown at you in a much more effective manner. One of the best ways to train and coach the mind is to constantly challenge it. And, the best way to do that is by learning new skills. By doing this, you will not only add to your repertoire of skills, but would also have a trained and agile mind.
