What is Imagery in Mental Training?

Imagery is an effective technique that is used in mental training for sportsmen and students. Relaxation and imagery are more effective when used in combination than on their own. It has been proved that those students who practiced these relaxation and imagery techniques for only 10 minutes every day had a better performance than others who came to know of the technique only some minutes before their performance.

This shows that when you carry out these exercises regularly, it helps in the long run for sure. So why not start today and become a genius old man/woman later?

Think about it.

Mental Training And Martial Art

In Japan, martial art is taught in a different manner. The students have mental training incorporated in their regular practice. In the olden days, when wars were common, young samurai were given training since they were born. They were coached to be completely committed to action without giving even a little importance to their lives.

These students lead a dedicated life consisting of strict discipline, austere training and rigorous practice. Their practice involved some psycho-religious practices such as Mikkyo and Zen Buddhism that trained the mind and conditioned it.  This resulted in a virtually transformed student with a clear mind and body.

Are Mental Exercises Enough for Mental Coaching?

Now that I have introduced all of you to so many mental exercises, you might be feeling that they are enough for mental training. But the truth is not so. There is much more to mental coaching than simple exercises.

Aged people need to get over the monotony and regular routine in their every day life. This is because it leads to mental, emotional sluggishness and resignation. The best way to avoid this is to incorporate dialogue, interaction with others and confrontation in a well-organized life.

If you truly wish to live a good life at old age, you need to develop your cognitive skills from the beginning.

Breakfast and Mental Training

Mental coaching can happen anywhere and anytime- even on the breakfast table. Are you surprised? Don’t be, as I will tell you how.

You can switch on the morning news on your radio or television set while having breakfast. Listen to it carefully.

Now simply write the gist of what you heard in the morning later in the day and in the evening as well. You can confirm the accuracy of your news comprehension by reading the newspaper. When you do this you will know for yourself how well you listen and whether you can put it in words as well.

Play Games for Mental Training

If you are not too inclined to take up a formal mental training course, games are a good option for you as they include logical activities while playing. There are lots of card games such as pinochle and bridge that can help.

Besides these, board games involving strategy such as chess or checkers are beneficial too. You can also try crossword puzzles, anagrams and other word games. But be careful not to play the same games every time as it will result in not activating your brain.

The aim is to use all the different cerebral circuits and neuronal regions to enhance their performance.

Get Rid of That List For a Brainier You!

Mental training need not be always through some coach. If we try to be less dependent on gadgets like a calculator or mobile phone, we can surely improve our mental strength.

For instance, we use a list while going shopping. Though it is a good way to stay organized and not forget buying something, we tend to stay away from remembering things on our own. You can devise a method for yourself to remember the items on the list, like making a complete word using the first letter of each item. You can also separate groceries into frozen and raw for convenience.

Mental Coaching and Structuralization

Mental coaching is not just about downloading online lessons or hiring a personal mental trainer. You need to workout your brain regularly to keep it working well for long. It is needed for our mind just like physical exercise is required for our body.

Structuralization is the process of creating a logical whole from scattered components after a watchful look at them. This way your brain gets activated and helps in utilizing its full capacity. Einstein is said to have used 10% of his brain and the rest is history.

Imagine if all of us used our brain completely, how many more inventions would happen?
